PerlerPal v. 1.4 Released!

PerlerPal

I just finished updating PerlerPal to 1.4 – here’s the new features!

  • Added a load option to the palette editor
  • Added the ability to turn off and on the grid
  • Fixed an issue with palettes being able to save invalid entries (which made some palettes not render correctly)
  • Added a palette display for the loaded palette
  • Added an option to show color numbers (good for printouts/colorblindness)
  • Added the ability to create new palettes

Thanks to all that have commented – these changes were made because the users requested them. I’m happy that people enjoy using the utility – please keep the comments coming! It’s what makes me happy to keep improving the tool! Go to the new tool here!

Oh wow, these changes are really impressive. When I suggested the numbers I just meant on the side where it says the colour names, but this way is even better as you can see them on the board. One suggestion though, is it seems that on Hama, they are all out by 1, as white is 0 when it should be 1, which is what it says on the packets and this chart I found:

VooD – the reason the Hama 48 color palette isn’t working is that it was a user-created palette, and your results may vary using them :) I would suggest using the “hama” palette and see how that works for you. That’s the one that I created, using the Hama color sheet.

Beatriz, to use PerlerPal, you can upload one of your own pictures, by clicking on the “browse” button by the “Image File” field, and find the picture on your machine. Click ok, and it should upload it to the server and show you your image using the default perler palette. From there, you can tweak the settings (palette, cell sizes, etc. etc.) to suit your needs. Hopefully this helps.

Krix, what problem are you having? It’s hard to tell from your post, therefore it’s hard to offer any suggestions.

I have attempted to create a few palettes (the “Megaman2″, “Megaman2-1″ and gtest1 through 3), added several colors to each, but upon saving, none of the colors are in the palette. I’ve tried with and without the leading hash on the color’s 6 character hex string.

I am on Snow Leopard, tried with both FF 3.6 and Safari 4.0.

    Really nice tool, thanks !

When I began using perles (hama) some weeks ago, I thought about creating a tool, to plan “objects” – or however to name it. Fortunately I first searched for existing tools. And this one is really nice ! At the moment I just miss one thing, it’s what Cherv asked for yet: wouldn’t it be possible, to make the order number of colors in the palette editable instead of just using a 0-based list ? As I mentioned I’m using Hama and in all hama-palettes I tried, white is 0 instead of 1 and the other numbers are given the number of the real palette less 1 accordingly.
Hm, ok, I think it could be solved editing a palette with 0 defined as a dummy color and then starting with 1 as white … but that would mean to edit a hole palette. At least the option to set the order number free would be much more user friendly.

Another thing: the “translucent” colors look clearly different than the “normal” ones; it’s not just a thing of using the color value to calculate their usage.
But, again, this is a question of the definition of a palette. However, not including the translucent colors would again mean that you can’t use the palette-numbers in straight order …
Perhaps the possibility to make the order numbers in palettes editable would be a nice feature for one of the next releases.

And, wait, … just one more other thing: where’s the App ? ;-)

  • edsalisbury

Alyssa, I'm not sure – Vista should work fine. Can you post an example of which image you're trying to upload? Thanks for trying out PerlerPal!

  • edsalisbury

Sven, I have updated PP to use 1-based numbering (as well as moving to it's own domain (perlerpal.com) – hopefully that helps.

  • Muggerods

    Hello,

I'm having trouble uplaoding my custom pallettes in there. I've tried creating a palette with around 40 colors (TekniK palette). Everything went fine until I saved it. The “TekniK” palette appears in the interface but it is empty. I've tried doing it again with a single color palette (Philippe) and I still can't save it. Do you know what could be wrong?

Other than that, great program ! Thanks a lot.

wao! gracias! a ti encontre !un programa q me sirva! gracias!!

Hi, I am having some trouble with your perlerpal, the image images showing what colours I have to use to make the project, but it does not show the placing of the perler beads or the grids (the main picture). Do you know why this is? It probably has something to do with my computer settings but i really don’t know :/ Help would be much appreciated :) xxx

Thanks for the comments. I updated this with the last update back in June. Let me know if you have any issues.

  • Anonymous

Thanks, but like many of my projects, it’s free (and no plans to change!)

  • Anonymous

    You’re very welcome!

  • Anonymous

No problem, glad people like it :)

  • Anonymous

Hmm, I’ve since cleaned up the palettes (although it looks like it needs it again) – are you still having this issue?

  • Anonymous

    What problem are you having?

  • Anonymous

Hmm, not sure what problem you could be having. Are you (or anyone else) still having this issue?

  • Anonymous

    De nada :)

  • Anonymous

Hmm, what browser are you using to use the site with? It’s hard to speculate what problem you’re having. I mostly use Firefox on Windows 7, so I know it works there.

Im having a hard time trying to adjust my image… The image I’m using is 600×700 and Im trying to create a perler pattern for it. • Emychaos

can u make the grid 14×14 instead of 16×16, or at leat an option to change it?
im using the small pegboard that is why.

  • Anonymous

Emychaos, I will add custom grid sizes to the new release.

    Thanks

  • uri

im new to this and i dont know exactly what to do in using photoshop and trying to up load them to ur program the grid size is 16×16 is that in cm or in pixels ? joker00496@aol.com plz and thanx

  • Synbios16

Off topic… I’ve tried to create a custom Pallette (both start with Syn) and both times, the only changes that are saved are the changes to existing color’s names. When I add new colors and hit save, the new colors are discarded. Used Firefox the first time and Internet Explorer the second. Kind of a bummer to go through all those hex codes finding matching colors… twice.. and still have nothing to show for it.

  • Frank Lansner

    Hi Ed!

Im totally addictedto your product MyPixelpal of yours, thankyou.

    To help remove not-used palettes:
All palettes starting with “Frank” or “chryo” can be deleted EXCEPT:

    1) Frankinclgrey
    2) FrankChryo

Is it possible to buy the mypixelpal? If not i hope it stays online – im addicted.

    K.R. Frank

  • Curious

I have a similar tool for my own enjoyment, but I was wondering what algorithm you are using to match the colors to the various palettes(specifically the perler one). I’m using Euclidean distance but I don’t like the results it gives me. What method do you use?

  • Anonymous

I am using PHP’s imagecolorclosest() function, which I believe is simply Pythagorean. Not sure how yours is different, so it’s hard to advise :)

  • Anonymous

Frank – I’m glad you like it :) I have deleted the palettes you don’t need any more. It’s not for sale, but I’m hoping that when I can have time to work on the new version that I would have a premium membership option – not sure what that would entail just yet, but something I’ve been toying with.

  • Anonymous

The 16×16 is pixels – everything that you would deal for pixel creations would be in pixels. A typical 8 bit sprite size is 16×16 (the mushroom on the front page is 16×16) Hope that helps!

  • Anonymous

600×700 is way too big :) Not sure which sprite you’re trying to work with, but you can probably find it on the net in a smaller size (ideally the original size), providing it’s a popular image.

  • Anonymous

Hmm, sorry you had trouble with this. The palette system is a little buggy unfortunately – when I get some time I’ll see if I can figure out what’s going on with that.
